A large crew of firemen on Thursday were trying to put out a blaze burning through a camp where Bangladeshi nationals live in the town of Nea Manolada, in the regional unit of Ilia, southwestern Greece, a local news website reported on Thursday.

The fire broke out on Wednesday morning and spread after gas bottles exploded, according to ilialive.gr.

Only two of the four men on trial for shooting and injuring 28 migrant workers at a strawberry farm in Nea Manolada last year were convicted by a court in Patra on Wednesday.

The court cleared two men of all charges, found one guilty of causing bodily harm and another being an accessory to the crime.

The trial against the four Greek nationals who injured 30 immigrant workers a year ago started in the Greek town of Patras.

The case triggered a local campaign to boycott "blood strawberries" which is still ongoing, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Giorgos Kaminis and Yiannis Boutaris retained the mayorships of Athens and Thessaloniki in the second round of local elections on Sunday but there were changes in key Greek cities.

Patra, Greece’s third largest city, was won by Communist Party candidate Costas Peletidis. In Iraklio, Crete, independent hopeful Vassilis Lambrinos beat PASOK-backed incumbent Yiannis Kourakis.
