Police following leads in Mafia hit
The police investigation into Sunday's Mafia-style execution of 44-year-old Vangelis Zambounis, a prominent underworld figure, in the Neos Kosmos suburb of Athens is reportedly focusing on the release of a mobster from prison 10 days ago, the rumored reversal of his business relations in recent months and his possible involvement in the war between Russian-speaking smugglers.

DNA links mob hit victims to car with weapons
The genetic material found in a car containing heavy weaponry in the Neos Kosmos district of Athens last week has been identified by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) as belonging to the two victims of a mafia attack in Korydallos on June 7.
Vassilis Roubetis, 38, and his brother-in-law Dionysis Mouzakitis, 31, were fatally shot in an ambush linked to ongoing gang rivalries.

Two dead, two injured in Athens shoutout
Two people were shot dead and two others were injured by unknown gunmen in the district of Neos Kosmos, in Athens, on Monday evening.
According to initial information, the victims and the perpetrators had arranged a meeting in a grove behind the church of Agios Sostis.

After selling out the Neos Kosmos Theater, actor Giorgos Chrysostomou's unique one-man show, "Mute," moves to the larger Jenny Karezi Theater for a series of twice-weekly performances on Mondays and Tuesdays until February 11. The show is set in 1998 Thessaloniki and is inspired by Chrysostomou's life. Performances start at 9 p.m. Tickets cost 18 euros.

Suspended Athens tram section may reopen

Offices of Ethniki Insurance attacked with sledgehammers
A group of around 20 individuals attacked the offices of Ethniki Insurance located on central Syngrou avenue in the Athenian district of Neos Kosmos on Friday afternoon, using sledgehammers to smash the glass entrance and windows.
The attacks happened at 3.10 p.m. and all the assailants had their faces covered with balaclavas and helmets.
Tram derails following collision with bus
A tram has derailed in the Neos Kosmos district of Athens on Monday after a collision involving a bus.
Early reports said the tram driver suffered minor injuries during the accident.
Initial assessments indicated that the bus had gone through a red light.
