SOFIA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian authorities have neutralized an illegal factory for the production of chopped tobacco and arrested five suspects, the country's Ministry of Interior said in a statement here on Tuesday.

1467 liters of illegal ethyl alcohol have been found by employees from a customs mobile group in a garage in the town of Aksakovo, Varna district. The inspection is in the framework of the strengthened control of the Customs Agency against the unauthorized production and trade in excise goods in the Black Sea area, BTV explained.

Police on the island of Crete arrested a 63-year-old man on Thursday on charges he was selling laughing gas (nitrous oxide) in his store.

He was nabbed after police raided his store in the tourist resort of Hersonisos and found almost 675 ampules and 910 balloons containing the gas.

The raid was part of a crackdown on the drug across the island, especially in resort areas.

Police said on Wednesday they had arrested the 54-year-old mastermind of a cocaine dealing gang after a two-year search.

The suspect had reportedly been dealing cocaine out of a restaurant he co-owns in the upmarket Kolonaki district of central Athens.

The suspect is 37-year-old M.V., a member of the Zandarmerija (Gendarmerie) unit of the Serbian Interior Ministry.

The police found 510 MDMA tablets and 5,000 euros in cash in M.V.'s possession during the arrest.

A small amount of marijuana was also found in his car, along with a precision scale that had traces of heroin and cocaine.

Turkish security forces impounded over 126 kilograms of heroin and 1,450 grams of hashish in multiple operations in the capital Ankara and southern province of Osmaniye on June 20, according to police sources.

More than 270 suspected drug smugglers were detained and over two tons of heroin seized during anti-drug operations in the first five months of the year in the eastern province of Van, a security source said on June 18.

According to the Interior Ministry, about 8:30 am, when a compulsory police check-up on a bus owned by a private company commencing a school trip, it was found that the 41-year-old driver from Varna had used alcohol at a concentration of 1.27 per mille.
