Bulgaria's President, Defense Minister to Visit Mongolia, Republic of Korea

Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea will sign a memorandum on cooperation in the sphere of defense during a visit of Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev and President Rosen Plevneliev to the country.

The Bulgarian delegation headed by Plevneliev which will visit Mongolia and the Republic of Korea in the period May 10 - 15, 2015, according to a media statement of the Defense Ministry.

Foreign Air Policing Missions 'Would Be Shame on Bulgaria' - MP

Bulgarian Parliament's Defense Committee head Miho Mikov has described as "unacceptable" the prospect of Bulgaria paying other NATO members to protect its airspace.

Mihov is referring to a scenario that could follow if the country's current aircraft fleet, composed mainly of MiG fighter jets, is retired in September due to lack of maintenance.

About a hundred people have gathered in front of the Presidency in Bulgaria's capital Sofia to voice support for Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev.

Demonstrators have also expressed their approval for Bulgaria's EU and NATO membership.

Bulgaria has been a NATO member for ten years now and has been part of the EU since 2007.

Bulgarian Air Force Could Retire MiG-29 Jets in September

Bulgarian Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev announced that the country's air force could retire its MiG-29 fighter jets in September.

The current contract for maintenance of the jets expires on September 9 and Nenchev refuses to sign a new one, as he deems that the Russian offer is unfavourable.

Bulgaria President's Security Council to Discuss Army on 27 April

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will convene the consultative council on national security in order to discuss the state of the armed forces on April 27.

The council will discuss the development of the armed forces in the context of the current security environment, the presidential press service informs.
