A new chapter opened today for PASOK, with most of its members attending the crucial Central Committee meeting, convinced that their proposal for an immediate leadership election this fall will finally be accepted by Nikos Androulakis.

Grigoris Dimitriadis, former general secretary and nephew of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in charge of Greece's secret service testified for two hours before a Supreme Court prosecutor on Tuesday over an eavesdropping scandal targeting politicians, businessmen and media figures.

In his first public statement, made on state broadcaster ERT, since his leadership of the party was challenged in the wake of the European elections, socialist PASOK's president, Nikos Androulakis, adopted a hard line on Monday threatening those who insist on "toxic speech, introversion and discord" with expulsions.

PASOK president Nikos Androulakis said on Monday that he is ready to hold a party leadership race after coming under fire for the socialist party's mediocre performance in the European elections. 

Analysts were mostly in agreement on the night of June 9, as the result of the European election became clear: None of Greece's "big three" parties achieved their stated goals.
