Analysts were mostly in agreement on the night of June 9, as the result of the European election became clear: None of Greece's "big three" parties achieved their stated goals.

In an interview with Kathimerini on Sunday, Haris Doukas, who won the Athens mayoral election with support from PASOK in October last year, discusses the future of the Greek center-left following the recent European Parliament elections.

Determined to maintain the initiative on the internal party front, PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis is said to be ready to launch procedures for leadership elections.

He will give a first indication of his intentions at Wednesday's meeting of the political council of PASOK.

A lawmaker with socialist PASOK said on Thursday the party needs to establish "what went wrong" following disappointing results in the recent European elections. 

"This is no time for a witch hunt," Pavlos Geroulanos told Open TV. "Everyone is judged."

The rumbling since Sunday's European election - in which socialist PASOK remained stranded in third place, with only a slight increase in its percentage - was finally given voice on Wednesday by senior party official Odysseas Konstantinopoulos, who openly raised the issue of Nikos Androulakis' leadership, calling for the immediate launch of procedures leading to elections for a leader in 2024.<

PASOK MEP Nikos Papandreou has entered the ongoing debate about the future of the socialist party's leadership following disappointing results in the recent European elections. 

Sources within PASOK on Wednesday dismissed the idea of expediting the leadership elections in response to the socialist party's lackluster performance in the recent European Parliament elections.

"We will not allow the party to sink into navel-gazing," the sources said.

PASOK MP Odysseas Konstantinopoulos has called for a leadership change within the socialist party following the disappointing outcome of the recent European election.

PASOK ranked third, trailing behind main SYRIZA opposition, securing 12.79% of the vote and three seats. Leader Nikos Androulakis had aimed for a second-place finish.

PASOK chief Nikos Androulakis cast his vote on Sunday, in Iraklio, on the island of Crete, emphasizing the need for a credible and meaningful opposition in Greece.

The stakes of Sunday's European elections are high for Greece's political parties - each for their own reasons - as the results will shape the country's political landscape the day after.
