Ukrainian comedy actor Volodymyr Zelenskiy won the presidential election with a crushing lead before the current head of state Petro Poroshenko. This indicates the first predictions of a exit poll announced after the end of the vote.

Pro-Russian Serbian nationalists have mourned the killing on August 31 of the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic in Ukraine, Alexander Zakharchenko.

A statement sent to RFE said that on the order of Public Prosecutor's Office on the city of Krusevac the members of the Interior Ministry arrested Zivkovic on suspicion of organizing a direct participation in war or an armed conflict in a foreign country.

A report published by Radio Free Europe on Wednesday said Ukraine was investigating a far-right group of 54 pro-separatist fighters - including six Serbs - who took part in attacks on Ukrainian forces in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk from July 2014 onwards.

This was announced by the headquarters of the Ukrainian Anti-Terrorist Organization (ATO), and then reported as top news by many Ukrainian electronic media.

A group of mercenaries from Serbia has arrived in Donetsk area, intelligence data shows, ATO announced on Facebook.

Self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Leader Alexander Zakharchenko proposed on Tuesday a three-year transition period toward a new state called Malorossiya ("Little Russia") as a way to settle the three-year conflict.

Russian-backed rebels in east Ukraine have proclaimed the creation of a new state known as Malorossiya, which translates as "Little Russia." Germany has condemned the proposal as "completely unacceptable", Deutsche Welle reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree which guarantees recognition of passports of nationals of so-called 'Donetsk People's Republic' and 'Luhansk People's Republic', TASS news agency reports.

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has arrived in Brussels for the EU summit. Poroshenko's visit is aimed mainly at liberalising the visa regime for Ukrainians and the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Arseny Pavlov, a military leader of the pro-Russian rebels known by his nom de guerre "Motorola," has been killed in an explosion in Donetsk.

"Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is violating the ceasefire and has declared war on us," said Aleksandr Zakharchenko, who is the prime minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.
