President "did not receive U.S. congressman's letter"

President Tomislav Nikolic has not received a letter from a US congressman reportedly proposing "an exchange of territories," the daily Vecernje Novosti said.

Sources at the Presidency said on Monday afternoon they were unaware of the existence of such a letter, and had only heard about it "from the media."

Lavrov: Armed conflict must not be allowed in Balkans

MOSCOW - Tensions in the Balkans are rising drastically, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday, expressing the hope everyone understood a new armed conflict must not be allowed to break out, RIA Novosti reported.

Serbia wants embassies protected from "Albanian terrorists"

The Foreign Ministry has asked several countries to increase security of Serbian diplomatic missions that are the potential targets of Albanian terrorists.

The diplomats in these embassies have received precise instructions from Belgrade to raise "precaution" measures to the highest level, the daily Vecernje Novosti is reporting on Wednesday.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has told a Belgrade newspaper that the presidential elections campaign "has already begun for some."

The daily Vecernje Novosti is reporting this and noting that while Nikolic's mandate expires next year, there has been speculation for some time, both in the media and on the political scene, about the possible candidates.

The recent appointment of Russian billionaire Gennady Timchenko as Serbia's honorary consul in St. Petersburg "has caused many reactions."
