Hellas Gold staff call two-day strike as deadline looms
The Canadian mining company Eldorado Gold and the government appeared to remain at loggerheads Wednesday over mines in northern Greece whose operation Eldorado has threatened to suspend unless Greek authorities issue a series of pending licenses.
Temperatures dip in Halkidiki
Drivers in mountainous parts of Halkidiki, northern Greece, were advised to use snow chains as temperatures dipped considerably Friday and snow had covered large parts of the region, authorities said.

Skourletis imposes a 1.7mln euros fine to ‘Hellas Gold’
Eldorafo Gold announced today that it will suspend investments in Skouries and probably in Olympiada, too. And instead of trying to find a solution, the Greek government escalates the tension by imposing a fine of 1.7 million euros to Hellas Gold, while European Commission has already sent a message to Athens saying that Greece should attract and keep investments.
Miners escalate protests against Gov. decision to suspend Skouries mine operations (pics+vid)
The number of miners descending into the underground shafts in protest against the Tsipras’s government to shut down the operations of the Skouries mines in Chalkidiki, northern Greece is increasing, as 50 more joined their fellow-workers already there. Meanwhile, miners from the Cassandra Mines have occupied the council building of Arnaia, in a symbolic act of protest.
