Balkan Personalities Named as European High-Flyers

A Romanian lawyer, a Bulgarian politician and a Croatian scientist have been listed as three of 28 people from EU states who are "shaping, shaking and stirring Europe" in a feature published by the Politico website on Wednesday.

Romania is represented on the list by Laura Codruta Kovesi, the woman leading the country's battle against corruption.

Bucharest Mayor Arrested For Taking Bribes

Romanian anti-corruption prosecutors on Sunday morning detained Oprescu on suspicion that he took bribes of around 25,000 euro from several companies in exchange for getting them public contracts with the city hall.

They charged him as part of an organised group within the public administration that asked firms to kick back to 70 per cent of their profits from their work.

Bucharest associates with Lighting Urban Community International

Bucharest became an associate member of the Lighting Urban Community International (LUCI); Mayor Sorin Oprescu signed the Charter of Urban Lighting on Wednesday.

Gcal price for Bucharesters grows to 186 RON as of January 1st 2015

The price of the Gcal for the population grew from January 1st 2015 to 186.0567 RON/Gcal, from 166.169 RON/Gcal, according to a Decision by the National Authority of Regulation in Energy (ANRE), on Tuesday announced the Electrocentrale Bucharest company (ELCEN).
