Pulling the levers of sound: Inside Greece’s largest organ

The organ in the Christos Lambrakis Hall at the Athens Concert Hall resembles a building "a musical apartment complex," as soloist Ourania Gassiou describes it. At first, only a tiny light illuminated its four keyboards, while faint notes of Bach's "Passacaglia and Fugue" emerged from its massive pipes.

The Athens Concert Hall (megaron.gr) has invited one of the world's most respected organists to perform a special concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of the installation of the instrument, by German organ-building firm Klais, in the venue's Christos Lambrakis theater.

Famed Swiss organ unveiled in Koper cathedral

Koper – The Koper cathedral will inaugurate its new organ at Saturday’s mass, which is to be attended by Apostolic Nuncio to Slovenia Jean-Marie Speich and President Borut Pahor. The organ, which came from the famous Tonhalle concert hall in Zurich, is the second largest in Slovenia and will sound in a concert for the first time in the country on Sunday.

Swine Organs Will Replace Human Ones in a few Years

Modified pig hearts can be transplanted in only a few years, says the surgeon who performed the first successful transplant 40 years ago in the UK.

Speaking on the 40th anniversary of his revolutionary surgery, Sir Terence English said that his former assistant from 1979 would try to replace a human kidney with a swine one later this year.
