Pacific hurricane season

At least two people have died in southern Mexico from the passage of Typhoon John, now downgraded to a tropical storm, authorities said.

There is some damage

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook Mexico. Its epicenter was 37 km northwest of San Marcos and 14 km southeast of Acapulco, Guerrero, according to the US Geophysical Institute (USGS).

Buildings in Mexico City swayed in the middle of the night, forcing people to flee the streets. In some parts of the city, the quakes lasted nearly a minute.

Tropical Storm Irma gradually rises above the eastern Atlantic and is expected to become a hurricane today or tomorrow, the US Hurricane National Center said.

Hurricane Otto churned toward the sparsely-populated Caribbean coast border of Nicaragua and Costa Rica yesterday as an unusually strong late-season storm.

Patricia flattened a fishing hamlet on Mexico's Pacific coast, but authorities were relieved to see Oct. 24 that the record-breaking hurricane largely spared the country and dissipated as it moved north.

Hurricane Patricia is moving into the interior of Mexico becoming the most furious hurricane ever known to make landfall in the area after the center of its eye crossed the coast of Jalisco state early on Friday evening. Winds are rapidly losing strength.
