Panathinaikos team gets hero’s welcome from thousands of fans at Athens airport

Thousands of Panathinaikos fans gathered at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos airport on Monday, to greet their basketball team that won the Euroleague championship. 

The fans had gathered from early afternoon to celebrate the 7th Euroleague title of Panathinaikos, who beat Real Madrid 80-95 on Sunday's final.

Panathinaikos wins its seventh European crown

Panathinaikos has added a seventh European crown to its glorious history as it came back from 14 points down to beat Real Madrid in Berlin's final on Sunday.

The Greens won 95-80 in a match that will go down in history as one of the examples of the never-say-die approach that any finalist ought to have even against the holder, Real Madrid.

Greens win the Greek Cup with a buzzer-beating shot

Panathinaikos has won its 20th Greek Cup thanks to a last-gasp effort by Giorgos Vayiannidis that saw the Greens beat Aris 1-0 in Saturday's final in Volos.

The Athens giant won its second cup in three years, in dramatic fashion too, in a final played behind closed doors as the Panthessaliko Stadium has not yet had the necessary CCTV system installed.

Panathinaikos reaches Euroleague final, against Real that beat Olympiakos

Panathinaikos has advanced to the final of the Euroleague, after comprehensively defeating Fenerbahce in the first semifinal on Friday, but its opponent will not be Olympiakos. The Reds lost to a superior Real Madrid that will defend its crown on Sunday in Berlin against the Greens.

Final Four takes place in Berlin with Greek flavor

Basketball's EuroLeague Final Four begins on Friday at the Uber Arena in Berlin with the participation of two Greek powerhouses, Panathinaikos and Olympiakos.

Panathinaikos, guided by Turkish coach Ergin Ataman, will face Turkey's Fenerbahce, before Olympiacos goes head to head with defending champion Real Madrid in a rematch of last season's final.
