Time and support are running out for former president Stefanos Kasselakis, whose political maneuvering options are narrowing.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reached out to newly re-elected PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis, congratulating him on his victory and suggesting they meet soon. The conversation signals a potential upcoming face-to-face meeting.

Mitsotakis Congratulates Androulakis on His Re-election

Nikos Androulakis has won the runoff for the leadership of the socialist PASOK party, with nearly 60% of the vote.

Androulakis' rival, Athens mayor Haris Doukas, called to congratulate him before the results were finalized Sunday night.

According to the final results, Androul;akis got 125,820 votes, or 59.92% of the valid ballots. Doukas got 84,149 (40.08%).

“We managed in 3.5 months to make a clean and honest fight and create a strong current,” said Charis Doukas, who congratulated Nikos Androulakis on his victory.

“I will continue to fight for our principles and values, with unity, with everyone’s participation, for a big, strong PASOK that can win,” the Athens mayor said.

Nikos Androulakis’ victory in the PASOK election was clear and Haris Dukas congratulated him by phone.

According to reports, Nikos Androulakis thanked him, saying: “We are all moving forward together”.

Nikos Androulakis was re-elected as the president of PASOK, winning decisively in the second round of the elections with 59.92% against Haris Doukas, confirming his dominance within the party. He received 126,222 votes – fewer than the 139,000 he garnered in the 2021 elections, where he defeated George Papandreou.

The two contenders in the second round of PASOK's leadership election, current president Nikos Androulakis and Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, cast their votes in Athens on Sunday and made brief statements.

In the first round, held last Sunday, Androulakis came in first with 29.64%, while Doukas narrowly secured second place with 21.41%, just ahead of former minister Pavlos Geroulanos, who received 21.12%.

Polls conducted before the first election round showed Androulakis as the favorite to win in a head-to-head matchup against Doukas.

At 7 a.m. the polls opened for the second round of the internal elections in PASOK-Ministry of Change, for the election of the party’s president, in which the current president Nikos Androulakis, and the mayor of Athens, Haris Dukas, are facing off.

The message of support for Ηaris Doukas for tomorrow’s battle is sent implicitly but clearly by Giorgos Papandreou, stressing that “PASOK was and should become a force for change again.”
