Family of Scottish woman found dead in Crete in 2009 calls for new investigation

The family of a Scottish woman who was found dead off the coast of Crete in 2009 has appealed for the probe into her death to be reopened on the basis of evidence that she may have been a victim of foul play and not of drowning, as the initial investigation had concluded.

Cretan priest missing since early July found dead in ravine

A retired priest who had been missing for 22 days on Crete was found dead in a ravine in Iraklio on Saturday.

Father Emmanouil Lambrakis, 83, went missing on July 4 when he set off on foot from his village of Garipa with the aim of attending the unveiling of a new church in Arkalochori.

Members of the EMAK rescue team were called to help recover the priest’s body.

Man's body found in sea off southern Athens coast

The body of an unidentified man has been found off southern Athens’s coast, authorities said on Monday.

The corpse was found off the Fleves islet near Vouliagmeni. It is that of a man 1.65 meters tall. He was wearing blue shorts, a blue t-shirt and silver-coloured sneakers.

A post-mortem is to be carried out to establish the cause of the man’s death.

Inmate who murdered guard beaten before he died, says coroner


An investigation was launched on Friday into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ilie Kareli, the 42-year-old Albanian inmate who killed a prison guard on Tuesday, after he was found dead in a prison cell and a coroner’s report indicated that he had suffered serious injuries after being beaten with a blunt instrument.
