Coroners shoot down claims of voice from grave

Three coroners in Thessaloniki came to the unanimous decision on Friday that a woman who had been buried in the northern city on Thursday was dead when she was placed in her coffin despite the fact that passers-by and a cemetery employee heard a voice coming from her grave.

The 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead by doctors at a private clinic in the northern city at 6.31 a.m. on Thursday. She was buried the same afternoon.

The woman’s body was exhumed after authorities were notified about sounds coming from her grave but she was found to be dead.

A postmortem examination concluded that the woman died at the clinic and showed no signs of having died from asphyxiation. They said it was impossible that the sounds passers-by heard came from her grave.
