ATHEX: Banks keep main index on the rise

Blue chips gained some more ground on Tuesday after the significant rise recorded on Monday, though the start of the session at Athinon Avenue had pointed to another day of major growth for prices, and the mid-cap index ended the day virtually unchanged. The majority of stocks finished the session in the red, but turnover showed some further growth.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,429.22 points, adding 0.34% to Monday's 1,424.33 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.50%, ending at 3,469.04 points.

The banks index grabbed 1.82%, thanks to National climbing 3.69%, Eurobank rising 1.61%, Alpha growing 1.17% and Piraeus collecting 0.30%.

Jumbo augmented 3.20% and Aegean Airlines advanced 1.80%, but ElvalHalcor sank 2.38%, Metlen gave up 2.11% and Athens International Airport conceded 1.84%.
