Paul the Apostle

Today, the Orthodox Church celebrates Saint Peter's Day, honoring the apostles Peter and Paul, revered as supreme and universal teachers. These apostles fervently spread Christ's teachings and endured suffering, persecution, and martyrdom for their faith. They left behind messages that elucidate Christian values and the principles of church life.

The St. Paul Church, St. Paul's Well and surrounding historical quarters in the southern province of Mersin's Tarsus district are among the most important faith tourism attractions in the city and draw the interest of Christians worldwide.

According to data gathered by state-run Anadolu Agency, some 53,736 domestic and foreign tourists visited the area in 2019.

On June 29, the Orthodox Church honours the memory of the great apostles Peter and Paul. 

The celebration is of ancient origin, the date selected being the anniversary of either their death or the translation of their relics.

Greek-Australian double-bass player Nick Tsiavos will be performing selections from his latest album, "One Hundred Months, Third of East," at St Paul's Anglican Church on Saturday, October 7. The concert starts at 8.30 p.m. and admission costs 10 euros.

Works have been initiated by Istanbul University in the ancient field of Aya Tekla, one of the oldest centers of Christianity. 

The university will carry out surface survey in the ancient city, located in the southern province of Mersin's Silifke district.
