Friendly loss for Greece in Germany with plenty of positive features
Greece surrendered its first-half lead in Germany to suffer a 2-1 friendly loss at Moenchengladbach on Friday, exposing the frailty of the hosts and offering plenty of promise ahead of this fall's Nations League.
‘They were running to escape the fire’
In his lab in Alexandroupoli, northeastern Greece, coroner Pavlos Pavlidis has been receiving the bodies of migrants for two decades. Their remains are often trapped at the bottom of the Evros River for months. However, on August 22, he was called to a scorched hillside near the village of Avantas.

Irene Skylakaki will perform alongside rock musician Pavlos Pavlidis this Thursday on the Gazarte roof terrace. Skylakaki first entered the music scene at age 22, with her original song "In the Light" becoming the official selection for the Cosmote Jumping Fish service. Now 30 years old, she has released three albums and performed at popular festivals including Release Athens.

German-born Greek rocker Pavlos Pavlidis and his band - Orestis Benekas on keyboards and Alekos Voulgarakis on electric guitar - unveils his latest project, while also playing older crowd-pleasing favorites, at Gazarte's roof stage on Wednesday, August 29. Tickets cost 12 euros in advance (www.gazarte.gr) and 14 euros at the door on the night.

Eastern Macedonia and Thrace regional governor dies
Regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Giorgos Pavlidis died of cancer early on Thursday, local media reported. He was 60 years old.
Pavlidis was a lawyer who also served as Prefect of Xanthi from 1998 to 2010.
