14,000 Police Officers to Guard Polls

The National Police Chief Directorate voiced to media that a total of 14,000 uniformed police officers are to be deployed across Bulgaria during the early parliamentary election on March 26, according to BNR.

There are going to be 7,319 election spots with a total of 12,294 poll stations. The police assure that these are the common measures for such an event.

Huge anti-narcotics, anti-terror police operation launched in Istanbul

A large-scale operation with the participation of 2,000 police officers from anti-narcotics and anti-terror teams was launched in Istanbul on the morning of March 23. 

Checkpoints were established in parts of the city for the operation, called "Kurtkapanı-2," which means Wolf Creek in Turkish. 

Serbia and Belgium ink police cooperation agreement

Deputy prime ministers and interior ministers of Serbia and Belgium on Tuesday signed an agreement on police cooperation.

The agreement allows for broader top-level exchange of information, exchange of police officers and establishment of joint investigative teams to make the fight against organized crime and terrorism more efficient, Tanjug has reported.

Police seek suspects who ran away at gate of Istanbul's Atatürk Airport

Turkish police have been seeking three suspects who ran away from the entrance of Istanbul's Atatürk Airport despite police's warnings. Police have warned the suspects in a minibus to stop, but the minibus turned away and escaped while the police fired shots at the tires of the vehicle in order to stop them. 

Man drowns in water tank near Omonia

A man drowned in a water tank in an abandoned building on Deligiorgi Street in the central Omonia area of Athens late Sunday, police said on Monday.

The victim had allegedly been trying to run away from a man whose phone he had just stolen, police said.

It was not clear why he climbed into the water tank.
