Political status of Kosovo

BELGRADE - First Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic will be representing Serbia at Wednesday's United Nations Security Council meeting on a report by the UN secretary-general on the work of UNMIK, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

NIS - Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Gen Ljubisa Dikovic Monday urged KFOR to take all measures to maintain peace and security for the citizens of Kosovo-Metohija, pointing to a "fragile" security situation in the province after the decision of the Kosovo authorities on Trepca.

"When it comes to Kosovo, Serbia is faced with a severe and serious ultimatum because it is asked to renounce the property of Telekom Serbia in the province."

A member of the Kosovo Assembly from the ruling PDK party has spoken in favor of organizing a referendum on Kosovo's "unification with Albania."

According to Nait Hasani, Kosovo should "use the constitutional right to pass a law and organize the referendum."

GORA - There is no need to discriminate against citizens in Kosovo-Metohija who have passports issued by the Coordination Administration of the Serbian Interior Ministry, Dusan Kozarev, deputy head of the Serbian government Office for Kosovo-Metohija, said Friday after the European Commission proposed lifting visa requirements for travellers from Kosovo.

According to MEPs, the recognition of Kosovo by all member states of the EU will be helpful in normalising the relations between Pristina and Belgrade and in bringing more stability to the region.

"Serbia respects the policy of the United States, but has its own policy," Prieme Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday.

The Serbian Mission to the EU has reacted to the draft resolution on Kosovo prepared by European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur Ulrike Lunacek.

Serbian representatives said it contains "a series of unfair comments concerning Serbia."

EU rule-of-law prosecutors rejected claims by Kosovo politicians that politics played any role in the trial of former Kosovo Liberation Army commanders.

Marko Djuric said regarding the postponement of Kosovo assembly's session on establishing a special court that "there must be no escape from justice."
