Speaking to reporters after meeting with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on Monday - whom he invited to visit Belgrade - Aleksandar Vucic thanked Aliyev for supporting the territorial integrity of Serbia, and added that Serbia also supports Azerbaijan in this regard.

"Mutual support exists and these positions will not change in the future," Vucic said.

Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, in office since succeeding his father in 2003, has been nominated as the ruling party’s candidate in the presidential election in October, the party executive secretary said on Feb .1.

Head of State Rumen Radev will be on an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on 13 and 14 October at the invitation of President Ilham Aliyev, reported BGNES.

Azerbaijan on March 28 released from prison a prominent rights activist who had been jailed on economic charges which his supporters denounced as politically motivated, his lawyer said.

"Azerbaijan's Supreme Court ruled to replace Intigam Aliyev's initial seven-and-a-half-year sentence with a suspended sentence of five years," lawyer Javad Javadov told AFP.

Azerbaijan's ruling party won an outright majority Nov. 1 in parliamentary polls that were boycotted by the mainstream opposition, near-complete results showed, cementing strongman President Ilham Aliyev's grip on power.

BELGRADE - President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met on Thursday with Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic and said that the relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan are developing quickly, having reached a significant level in a rather short time, stressing that the prospects of investing in Serbian economy are interesting for Azerbaijan.
