Last Northern Anatolian amphitheater to be unearthed

The last amphitheater of the northern Anatolian region will be unearthed in an excavation in Turkey's province of Tokat. The amphitheater is located just east of the historic castle of Zile, a city with a long Roman history and battle that prompted Roman Emperor Julius Caesar's famous phrase, "veni, vidi, vici" (I came, I saw, I conquered).

Police have begun to stand guard to protect a much-debated statue of an Ottoman prince taking a selfie with a smart phone in a historic Turkish town.

The bizarre steel statue was erected by the municipality in the Black Sea province of Amasya on May 9. Although it was criticized by some as a tasteless anachronism, it has attracted scores of tourists.

The municipality in the Black Sea province of Amasya erected the unconventional statue on the shore of the town's Ye?il?rmak River on May 9, Do?an News Agency reported.

A museum is under construction on the castle of Zile, known for Roman Emperor Julius Caesar?s famous phrase ?veni, vidi, vici? (I came, I saw, I conquered) to the Roman senate. A stone building, which was established on the land on the right side of the historic castle in the northern province of Tokat, is set to open as a museum when the refurbishments are complete.
