Two people killed, four injured in overnight traffic accidents

Two people were killed and four injured in two traffic accidents in less than 12 hours on Greece's streets, highlighting concerns about a spike in road fatalities.

The first incident occurred on Wednesday night on the Thessaloniki-Kavala highway in northern Greece, near the village of Nea Apollonia.

Motorcycle fire disrupts traffic on Athens highway

A motorcycle caught fire on a bridge section of Poseidonos Avenue in Neo Faliro, heading toward the southern port district of Piraeus.

No injuries were reported, but the incident caused significant traffic disruptions. 

Despite the motorcyclist's attempts to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, the fire spread to the acrylic noise barrier.

Tram line section in southern Athens returns to service on July 1

Tram service in the section between Asklipio Voulas and Zefyros in southern Athens will resume on July 1 after four months, the Athens Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY) said on Friday.  

The service had been suspended since March 10 due to construction work at the former airport at Elliniko to bring part of coastal Poseidonos Avenue underground.

Flooding in Athens as Storm Daniel reaches capital

Flooding has been reported on a number of streets in Athens as Storm Daniel, which has caused havoc in many parts of the country for the past three days, reached the capital.

The rainfall began in the morning but by 4 p.m., the situation had deteriorated in many areas, with heavy downpours and intense lightening in the capital and Piraeus.
