Fourteen candidates are participating in the electoral competition at the end of which voters will choose who takes over the seat at Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

Nine of the fourteen candidates that have submitted presidential bids are at their first attempt to conquer the highest position in the state, while five already went through this experience before.

Outgoing Deputy Parliament Speaker Maya Manolova has criticized Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev over his actions on appointing the caretaker government.

"Bulgaria is not a presidential republic," regardless of Plevneliev's desires, and will "perhaps never become one," Manolova said in an interview with private national channel bTV's breakfast show.
