Citing higher labour costs, some of the retirement homes and kindergartens have already hiked up the prices of their services, while higher wages may yet translate into higher supplementary health insurance premiums and in-home support services. However, not all hikes can be blamed on higher wages.

People in Bosnia and Herzegovina have started topping up the fuel tanks of their vehicles ahead of the announced price rise that will come into effect on Thursday, when a new excise tax law takes force.

The majority of transactions in the homes market over the last few months barely come to 100,000 euros, with the exception of forced sales for the settlement of debts or sales under the threat of confiscation where prices are symbolic.

The Food and Agriculture Ministry has decided to impose a price ceiling for red meat in a bid to control recent rises.

According to new price regulations announced by Minister Faruk Çelik on Feb. 9, the maximum price for a kilo of ground meat will be 32 Turkish Liras (around $11), while the maximum price of a kilo of diced meat will be 34 liras. 

Financial Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Alt. Finance Minister Tryfonas Alexiadis are faced with making decisions on the new objective property values around the country. Sources state that the findings submitted forecast horizontal reductions from 10-20% for middle-class areas, and smaller reductions as well as increases in working class districts.

The Plenary Council of the State ordered the change of objective property values so that these are based on actual commercial prices in 2015, causing a mad scramble by the government to avoid returning taxes or result in the state losing  2.65 billion euros from the single property tax (ENFIA) in 2016.

People have been purchasing medicine from Turkish pharmacies, where medicine prices are quite low, and then selling them in neighboring markets with higher margins, according to sector representatives.  

Alternate Finance Minister Nadia Valavani sent a document to the special permanent committee in Parliament stating that new state-set objective-value prices for real estate would be ready by mid-June.
