Smoking ban inspections tripled this year, data show
The number of inspections carried out by the Athens municipal police on establishments to determine whether they are enforcing a ban on smoking in public places tripled in the first half of this year compared to last year, figures showed on Tuesday.

Officials crack down on tax-evasion on Mykonos
A well-known entertainment venue on Mykonos rushed to pay four million euros in overdue taxes on Sunday, after inspectors launched a tax-evasion crackdown on the upscale tourism island.
Almost sixty officials are involved in the four-day operation, which has been codenamed "Trident" because of the three-pronged focus of its inspections.

Applications for relief from fire damage begin on Tuesday
Attica fire victims will be able to submit their applications to receive a lump sum of 5,000 euros in aid on Tuesday, according to Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis.
"We have a safe estimate today on the damages sustained by buildings, as the inspections have been completed," Spirtzis said on Saturday.
Over 1,280 buildings deemed unfit for use after fire
Almost 2,500 inspections conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday found that half of all the buildings that were damaged by Monday's deadly fire in east Attica are unfit for use.
More specifically, 1,281 (49.3 percent) have been described as unfit for use, compared to 1,271 (51.07 percent) buildings that are deemed fit for use.
Unfit tomatoes seized, destroyed in Piraeus
Food and nutrition inspection teams have confiscated and destroyed 2.3 tonnes of tomatoes that were unfit for consumption, authorities said Thursday.
Authorities said that after carrying out a sample examination of the shipment, which was located in Piraeus south of Athens, experts found signs of deterioration.
