Golden tip fixed atop Paris obelisk
Though few onlookers have ever noticed, the famed golden-topped obelisk at the center of Place de la Concorde in Paris has stood without a tip for nearly 200 years - until June 20.
In a ceremony attended by VIPs, a trainee craftworker showed no signs of vertigo as she placed a new gold-plated point atop the 3,000-year-old monument, which was gift to France from Egypt in 1830.

Egyptian authorities said on Jan. 10 they had detained three people for trying to steal a millennia-old 10-ton statue of the pharaoh Ramses II with a crane.

The mummified remains of 22 ancient Egyptian kings and queens will be paraded through the streets of Cairo on April 3, in an eye-catching royal procession to a new resting place.
Dubbed the Pharaohs' Golden Parade, the 18 kings and four queens will travel in order, oldest first, each aboard a separate float decorated in ancient Egyptian style.

Archaeologists from Egypt and Germany have found a massive eight-meter statue submerged in ground water in a Cairo slum that they say probably depicts revered Pharaoh Ramses II, who ruled Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.

The Antiquities Ministry announced on Thursday the discovery of parts from two statues of two kings belonging to the 19th Dynasty.
The discovery was made by a joint German-Egyptian archaeological mission operating in Matareya area at the site of King Ramses II Temple which he built at in Oan City in Ancient Egypt.
