Around half of Greece's municipalities have yet to declare their properties to the Hellenic Land Registry, as in many cases they do not have the necessary ownership deeds, according to the association of companies that undertake cadastral projects (SEGEK). 

The Finance Ministry intends to extend the suspension on rental payments for companies forced to remain closed into March. This will mostly concern enterprises in food service and tourism.

Scuffles broke out in Ljubljana on Tuesday between police and squatters who claimed they were forcibly removed from the former Rog bicycle factory, which has been used as a squatted social and cultural centre since 2006.

The government has decided to include legal entities that lease out properties to companies benefiting from the 80% rent cut in its landlord support program, as it realized that they too have suffered a huge blow.

More than 200,000 enterprises will pay just 20% of their pre-crisis rent in January and February 2021. According to what Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told Parliament on Tuesday, the measure will concern enterprises forced to stay shut during the festive season.

Retail is expected to enter a period of major restructuring in the coming months, as the coronavirus crisis that came hot on the heels of the financial crisis of the 2010s is bringing commercial store owners and shopkeepers into conflict.

The Finance Ministry is in the process of creating a data bank for all active property rental contracts across Greece.

As of Monday, the Hellenic Land Registry website www.ktimanet.gr is to start posting cadastral data for the Municipality of Athens. Authorities are calling on more than half a million citizens who have declared ownership of properties within the municipality to check the accuracy of the data recorded ahead of its finalization.

Cadastral data for the Municipality of Athens will start being posted online as of June 1 on the Hellenic Land Registry website.

Property owners have serious concerns about the level of the compensation they will get for their revenues lost to the 40% rent cuts instructed by the government in favor of the companies and employees hurt by the pandemic. They also want to know how, precisely, they will be compensated.
