Amount of recycled waste edges up to 442,000 tons
About 442,000 tons of waste was recycled in Greece last year as a result of households placing recyclable items in the blue dumpsters that are located in an increasing number of neighborhoods, the Hellenic Recovery Recycling Corporation (HERRCO) said on Thursday.

Recycling firm a racketeering front
A police raid on a business claiming to be into recycling in Aspropyrgos, west of Athens, revealed evidence of large-scale racketeering.
The firms owner, a man aged 62, and his 33-year-old daughter handed themselves into authorities on Friday following Tuesdays raid and face a string of serious criminal charges.

Greece among EU's waste management laggards
Greeks produced more municipal waste than the average European Union citizen in 2012 and more of it ended up being buried in landfills than was the norm for the 28-member block.
Greece produced an average of 503 kilos of municipal waste per resident compared to the EU average of 492 kilos.
