Greece among EU's waste management laggards
Greeks produced more municipal waste than the average European Union citizen in 2012 and more of it ended up being buried in landfills than was the norm for the 28-member block.
Greece produced an average of 503 kilos of municipal waste per resident compared to the EU average of 492 kilos.
The country was way behind the EU average in terms of recycling, with only 16 percent of waste being used again and 2 percent composted.
In the EU, 27 percent was recycled and 15 percent composted.
Another 27 percent was incinerated and 34 percent landfilled.
In Greece, 82 percent was dumped in landfills.
