Solid waste policy in the United States

In addition to the construction materials in the debris waste, wood, electronic, plastic and metal materials might become a pollution mechanism that threatens the nature and the health of living species in a wide area by mixing with soil and water, says a Greenpeace report.

Mytilineos on Wednesday announced its subsidiary Zeologic SA had signed an agreement with Inwaste SA for the design, supply and construction of an innovative treatment plant for hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste and sludge in Greece. 

Municipal waste is about 7- 10% of the total volume of waste generated in the European Union. This is said in a report on the SWAN project "Balkan Waste Reuse Platform", presented by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce.

In connection with the information that has appeared in the media, we inform you that neither the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria, nor the Ministry of Environment and Water are negotiating with Italy for the acceptance of waste generated in the city of Rome or other Italian cities.

Bulgaria ranks fifth in the European Union for garbage generation, Eurostat statistics show.

The latest European Community statistics on trash generated in the community is from 2016. Eurostat will submit a new analysis in November. By 2016, the total waste generated by the Union from all economic activities and households amounts to 2 538 million tonnes.

Turkey is wasting about 15 percent of its national income, according to the Turkish Foundation for Waste Reduction (TİSVA), a non-governmental initiative established to ensure efficient and effective use of resources and prevention of waste, including food waste in the community. 

A solid waste storage and disposal facility in the western province of Edirne that produces electricity from waste has started operating.

The Turkish Environment Ministry is preparing to allow the deposit of mining waste into the sea if storing it on land is not appropriate, in another move that infuriates critics of the government’s development policies.

According to the Mining Wastes Regulation’s draft, pouring mining waste into the sea will be permitted on the condition of “detailed monitoring.”

The Environment Ministry on Tuesday approved plans by the regional authority of the Peloponnese for the implementation of a modern waste management system across the region where illegal landfills abound.

Greeks produced more municipal waste than the average European Union citizen in 2012 and more of it ended up being buried in landfills than was the norm for the 28-member block.

Greece produced an average of 503 kilos of municipal waste per resident compared to the EU average of 492 kilos.
