Cross-checking for offenders on wheels starts this month
This month authorities are starting to perform extensive cross checks in order to detect uninsured vehicles, those that have not passed a technical inspection (KTEO) or vehicles that circulate illegally without paying road tax.
AADE: In the Tax Authorities’ radar – Cars, properties, and client lists
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is launching a digital “net” over properties, vehicles, and business activities next month with the activation of three new services.
AADE: “Scan” by the tax authorities every six months for uninsured cars and road tax – Up to 10,000 euros fines
The tax office, in collaboration with other relevant authorities, will conduct biannual cross-checks to identify approximately 500,000 uninsured vehicles, vehicles with unpaid road tax, and vehicles that have not passed MOT inspections.
Higher Charges for Polluting Cars in Bulgaria
Proposed amendments to Bulgaria's Roads Act are set to introduce higher tolls for polluting vehicles, marking a significant shift in the country's road usage fees. The changes, currently undergoing public consultation, aim to factor in both the EURO emission class and CO2 emission class of vehicles when determining toll rates.

Bill on cross-checking drivers’ compliance to reach Parliament
This month the government will table a bill in Parliament on the new monitoring system with online cross-checking for uninsured vehicles, for owners whose vehicles have not undergone technical inspections (KTEO) and for those who have not paid their road tax.
Road tax payment deadline extended to January 15
Vehicle owners were on Monday given an extra 15 days to pay their 2020 road tax, as Tuesday's original deadline for the annual fee was moved to January 15, according to an announcement by the Finance Ministry.

Road tax can now be paid by January 11
The deadline for road tax payments has been extended to Friday, January 11, after Finance Ministry figures showed on Monday that a considerable number of vehicle owners had yet to fulfill this obligation.

Road tax deadline extended to next Friday
The Finance Ministry announced on Friday it has extended the deadline for road tax payments until January 5.
This concerns payments both at banks or post offices and online.
The same applies to the deadline for the submission of vehicle registration plates.
No extension has been granted for property tax (ENFIA) payments.

Checking for uninsured vehicles will not start before May
The process for the identification of uninsured vehicles will not begin before mid-May, as the Finance Ministry will first try to locate the vehicles with debts from road tax due for the years 2013-16.
Vehicle owners submitting plates in droves
In the two-month period up to January 9, 122,000 vehicle owners submitted their license plates, making for a significant loss of state revenues amounting to some 50-60 million euros, given that these are mostly vehicles with big engines and therefore high road taxes.
