Bulgarian Cherry Production for 2018 Expected to Reach Record High

Bulgarian cherry production in marketing year (MY) 2018 is expected to reach a record high due to expanded area, favorable weather, and improved average yields. The growth in cherry stocks will foment more processing and fresh consumption. Peach production and stocks are lower due to weather-related yield losses in major production regions. Fresh peach consumption is forecast to be stable.

Huge Drug Factory with a Record Amount of Cannabis Was Found in Pomorie

Police in Pomorie found a drug factory with a record amount of cannabis. 

The drug was raised with expensive equipment in a specially adapted room in a house. Policemen encounter nearly 200 pots of marijuana, of which about 40 kg of marijuana was seized. Part of the cannabis was ready for placement. 

Cannabis nursery discovered in Lagonissi

A 33-year-old man has been arrested after police raided a luxury home in Lagonissi, southeastern Attica, where hydroponic cannabis was been cultivated on a large scale.

The drugs squad carried out the raid following a tip-off.

A total of 564 cannabis plants were seized.

Police said that the man they took into custody was already wanted on rape charges.

Suspect held over cannabis in Kastoria

Police in Kastoria, northern Greece, on Friday detained a 27-year-old man after finding 20 kilograms of cannabis in his car. Officers confiscated 37 packages containing the drugs that had been hidden under the back seat.

Authorities are seeking to determine whether the 27-year-old belongs to a drug smuggling racket.

Half a ton of cannabis netted in two operations

Police from Attica's narcotics unit have confiscated half a ton of cannabis in two parallel operations.

The first operation resulted in the discovery of 210 kilos of cannabis and the arrest of three men on Friday, including a 40-year-old Albanian national, believed to be the ringleader, and two Greeks, aged 28 and 18.
