Turkey not dependent on Russia for nuclear plant: Deputy PM

Turkey on Dec. 9 insisted it was not dependent on Russia to build its first nuclear power plant amid uncertainty over the $20 billion project because of the crisis in relations between Ankara and Moscow.

Russia's state atomic agency Rosatom began constructing the plant in Akkuyu in the southern Mersin province on the shores of the Mediterranean in April.     

Russia's Rosatom Wraps up Upgrade of Bulgaria's Kozloduy NPP Unit 6

Russia's Rosatom Service said on Monday it has completed an upgrade of Unit 6 of Bulgaria's Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) designed to extend its lifespan.

The modernisation of the 1,000-megawatt Unit 6 included the replacement of the stator of the turbogenerator with a new one as part of a planned increase in installed capacity to 1100 MW.

Saudi, Hungary sign nuclear pact

Oil giant Saudi Arabia, which is trying to diversify its energy sources, signed an agreement on Oct. 19 with Hungary to cooperate in the peaceful use of atomic energy.

It is the latest pact of its kind signed by the world's largest oil exporter, which earlier this year reached similar agreements with Russia and South Korea.

Rosatom to Modernise Generator Equipment of Bulgaria's Kozloduy NPP

Russia's Rosatom will modernise the generator equipment of unit 5 of Bulgaria's Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP).

This was agreed in a EUR 24.7 contract signed by Kozloduy NPP and Rosatom on Saturday 30, the Russian corporation informed on Friday.

The delivery timeframe of the core equipment for Unit 5 is 500 days, with all upgrades expected to be completed by May 2018.

Turkish Energy Minister says no problem with Akkuyu nuclear power project

Turkey's Energy Minister has refuted recent reports about uncertainties in Turkey's planned first nuclear power plant project in the southern district of Akkuyu amid rising rows between Turkey and Russia over Syria, saying that there is no problem with the project.
