City of Athens dishes up New Year's meal for 1,000
Hundreds of the city's poor and homeless attended the New Year's meal offered to around 1,000 persons by the City of Athens, at the indoor sports arena at Rouf, Tuesday. Dozens of municipal employees and volunteers helped serve the food, which was donated this year by the Interamerican insurance firm. [EPA]

Athens opens heated venue for homeless
The City of Athens announced on Wednesday it has opened a heated venue where the homeless can warm up during this latest cold snap. The room is located at 66 Sophocleous Street and will remain open until 10 a.m. on December 29, it said.

The City of Athens served about 1,000 people at its free Christmas lunch which took place at an indoor stadium in the district of Rouf, west of the city center.
Dozens of municipal employees and volunteers helped serve the dinners - which were this year donated by supermarket chain Lidl - mostly to poor families and homeless persons.
