Russian involvement in the Syrian Civil War

The Kremlin on Wednesday denied media allegations that the Russian military was taking part in aistrikes against Islamic State targets in Syria.

"No need to believe these reports," said spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is to host the Jordanian King and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in Moscow on Aug. 25 to discuss the Syrian crisis and take part in a showcase of Russia's military industry.

Syria's main opposition group on Aug. 13 insisted President Bashar al-Assad must go and rejected calls to join forces against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadists as it met with Russia's foreign minister.  

It was meant to be a news conference about solving the Syria crisis and combating Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), but an unguarded remark into the microphone from Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov grabbed all the attention. 

Saudi Arabia's foreign minister on August 11 poured cold water on Russian calls to join forces with the Syrian authorities against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) jihadists, insisting it would never work with President Bashar al-Assad.   

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said on August 11 Riyadh's position on the conflict in Syria has not changed and that there was no place for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the future of the country. 

Saudi and Russian foreign ministers, Adel al-Jubeir and Sergei Lavrov, will meet in Moscow on August 11 to discuss global energy markets and the Middle East crisis, including the war in Syria and the threat of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Russia's foreign ministry said. 

The United States and Russia have reached agreement on a draft U.N. resolution aimed at identifying those behind chemical weapons attacks in Syria in order to bring them to justice, a U.S. official said on August 6. 

When the new cabinet emerges from the mayhem of the newly sworn-in parliament, its biggest problem will be Syria. It is not just the refugee issue that will need to be addressed. Turkey?s longest border has turned into a fishing net and Turkish Armed Forces are trying desperately to secure it.

Russia is ready to provide Iraq with weapons, according to the Russian Foreign Minister, at the same time while Baghdad is ready to stop the ruthless advance of ISIS jihadists.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iraqi counterpart, will be meeting soon to speak on the efforts to stop the oncoming jihadist wave.
