Ferries tied up at Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina due to strong winds
Gale-force winds and choppy seas prompted port authorities on Tuesday to issue a sailing ban at the three ports serving Athens, in Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina.
Ferries will not be sailing to the islands of the Aegean on Tuesday and passengers must check with their ferry operators about ticket returns.
Strong winds hamper sea travel
Winds reching 7 and 8 Beaufort led to disruptions in Saronic Gulf sea travel services from and to Piraeus, the Greek coast guard said on Thursday morning.
Services were also disrupted on the Salamina-Paloukia and Aghia Marina-Nea Styra routes.
Travelers were advised to contact local port authorities for more information.
