Saudi-led intervention in the Yemeni civil war

ATHENS/LONDON - On a warm spring night in Athens, shortly before midnight, a senior executive at a Greek shipping company noticed an unusual email had landed in his personal inbox.

The United Nations said Tuesday their human rights offices in Sanaa had been stormed by Yemen's Houthi rebels, with the U.N.'s rights chief demanding they leave immediately and return all seized assets.

Türkiye on Thursday expressed support for a new agreement between Yemeni sides aimed at reducing tensions and called for further steps toward lasting peace in the conflict-ridden nation.

"We welcome the agreement reached on a number of issues aimed at de-escalating tensions between the parties in Yemen," Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

EU member states want to launch a Red Sea naval mission by mid-February to protect ships from attacks by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militia and could decide its command structure on Wednesday, foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said.

The United States carried out a fresh strike Saturday on a Huthi rebel target in Yemen, U.S. Central Command said, after the Iran-backed militants warned of further attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

The strike on a Huthi radar site comes a day after scores of attacks across the country heightened fears that Israel's war with Hamas could engulf the wider region.

Yemen's internationally recognised government has welcomed U.N.-led efforts to end the country's civil war after the warring parties committed to take steps towards a ceasefire.

An American warship has responded to the distress call of the "Central Park" tanker seized by armed attackers off the coast of Yemen. This was announced by both American officials, quoted by "Reuters", and the company Zodiac Maritime in a statement to the media.
