The police discriminated against a Muslim female officer by forbidding her to wear a headscarf when interacting with the public, the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights ruled on Nov. 20, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Turkey's Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) launched an investigation against a mufti over his sexist comments insinuating women who do not wear the headscarf were like "products sold at half price" on Sept. 22. 

Hungary’s Constitutional Court has repealed a ban on the construction of mosques introduced by the village of Asotthalom, near the border with Serbia.

The court also overturned a ban headscarves "like burkas and chadors" worn by Muslim women, AP has reported.

Upon the European Court of Justice's March 14 ruling that companies can ban headscarves and other religious symbols in workplaces, Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş reacted and said, "This is a shameful decision. It is one of the many anti-Islam manifestations. This decision destroys European values all together." 

In a landmark move, the Turkish military removed the headscarf ban for female officers, non-commissioned officers and cadets on Wednesday, being the last institution in Turkey to do so.

Women soldiers in Turkey will now be able to wear a headscarf as part of their uniforms, according to a new regulation prepared by the Defense Ministry to expand the scope of previous rulings on the much-debated issue.

A court in Istanbul on Feb. 14 arrested a woman on charges of "preventing freedom of belief" after a complaint was filed against her on accusations that she attacked a young woman on a public bus and tried to remove her headscarf. 

The model adjusts her clothing, stares at the camera with a hint of a smile, holds her head high and the photographer starts snapping.

It is pleasing that there were massive reactions to the ugly attack experienced by nurse Ayşegül Terzi because of what she was wearing… This shows that, in our society, the culture of coexistence and diversity is developing now even though it is not yet adequate. 

Whether or not the attacker is schizophrenic is for the Forensic Medicine Institute to determine. 

Muslim fashion designer Anniesa Hasibuan made history, as the models presenting her fashion line on the runway at New York Fashion Week wore the traditional Islamic head cover known as hijab. The 28-year-old designer from Indonesia wrote on her instagram page after the show: ‘Muslims from all over the world and all you, beautiful people, thank you for your support’.
