Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek met with main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy leader for economic affairs Yalçın Karatepe on June 24, marking a move in the ongoing "softening" and "normalization" period in the Turkish politics.

The meeting also included CHP secretary-general Selin Sayek Böke and deputy leader Volkan Demir.

The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has appointed its Istanbul lawmaker Aykut Erdoğdu as the party's new deputy leader responsible for the economy in lieu of Selin Sayek Böke, who has recently resigned from her post.

Selin Sayek Böke, who recently announced her resignation from her duties in the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), has said she will not run for the party leadership. 

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chair Bülent Tezcan has been appointed as the party's new spokesperson, filling a position left vacant after former spokesperson Selin Sayek Böke resigned.

Tezcan gave his first press conference as spokesperson on May 10 after the party's Central Executive Board meeting.

Selin Sayek Böke, the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) spokesperson and deputy head responsible for the economy, announced her resignation from her duties on May 6, citing the lack of a political fight within the party against the April 16 referendum results.

"We do not recognize the referendum result," she said.

Böke had been due to give a speech on March 19 at the Boğaziçi Administration and Leadership Summit to be held by the university's Business and Economy Club.
