Nikolas Sarkozy May Face Criminal Probe Over Qatar World Cup Vote-Buying

The selection process for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments has been mired in allegations of widespread corruption and bribery, Politico reported.

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is facing a criminal investigation in his country over allegations he accepted bribes to support Qatar's bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Telegraph reported Thursday.

BELGRADE - Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) will have to pay 30,000 Swiss francs due to the improper conduct of fans at a match against Croatia.

Kosovo and Croatian fans chanted "Kill the Serb" during the match in a World Cup qualifier, played on 6 October in Skadar, Albania.

FIFA Ethics Committee Provisionally Bans Blatter, Platini for 90 Days

The adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee provisionally banned FIFA President Sepp Blatter, UEFA President and FIFA Vice-President Michel Platini and FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke for a period of 90 days.

The duration of the bans, which come into force immediately, may be extended for an additional period of not more than 45 days.

Platini and Blatter under investigations on charges of illicit transactions

Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona has decided to stand as a candidate for the FIFA presidency to replace Sepp Blatter, Uruguayan journalist and author Victor Hugo Morales has said. 

Morales said Maradona had told him of his intention when he called the former coach of the Argentina national team to check on the condition of his sick father on June 21.
