Fate of the old mines on Serifos back in the spotlight

The move by the new owner of large areas of the old mines on the Aegean island of Serifos to put up signs defining its borders has caused a local uproar.

The dispute started two months ago when signs were placed at various points on the island bearing the words Property Seriphos Mines and the name of the French-owned company Societe des Mines de Seriphos et de Spiliazeza au Laurium.

2 taken to hospital after speedboat crash

Two people, aged 70 and 51, were injured when their speedboat crashed into a rocky shoreline near the area of Agios Sostis on the Aegean island of Serifos on Tuesday.
Coast Guard officials assisted with the crash.
The two passengers were taken to the hospital. They were not believed to have life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash was being investigated.

Bid to create Greece’s first ‘smoke-free’ beach

A collaboration between the Municipality of Serifos and the A.C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation aims to make the island's Vagia beach the first smoke-free one in the country.
The project envisages the creation of a designated area for smokers, with ashtrays bearing environmental messages aimed at sensitizing visitors to the polluting impact of cigarette stubs.

Two injured as ferry crashes into Sifnos pier

Two passengers were slightly injured on Wednesday when a ferry struck the pier at the port of Sifnos island in the Aegean Sea.

The accident took place as the Sea Jet 2 vessel carrying 196 passengers sailed into the island's harbor on its regular route from Piraeus to Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Folegandros, Santorini, Koufonisi, Naxos, Mykonos, Santorini.
