Mother, son killed in head on collision
A 44-year-old woman and her 10-year-old son were killed instantly Monday after the woman's car collided head on with a truck on a country road between Kilkis and Serres in northern Greece.
The 55-year-old truck driver was hospitalized with minor injuries. The circumstances of the collision are under investigation.

Heavy rainfalls in northern Greece leave one dead
Authorities of Sidirokastro, Serres, northern Greece confirmed the death of a 48-year-old man who was trapped in his car when it was swept away by the floods.
The man, father of one child, was returning home late at night from a local night club when he was trapped in his car, according to information.

An ancient rite involving … fire-walking was again celebrated last week in a handful of villages οφ northern Greece.
Considered by some as a pagan custom carried into the Christian era, the fire-walking commemoration is held every May 21, which coincides with the feast day of Sts. Constantine and Helen.

State of emergency declared in Serres due to floods
A state of emergency was declared on Tuesday morning in the region of Serres in northern Greece, after several days of heavy rain destroyed crops and took out parts of the road network.
Golden Dawn supporters sentenced over attack against ANTARSYA member
Two Golden Dawn supporters on Thursday were found guilty of bodily harm by a court in Serres, northeastern Greece, in an attack against a member of anti-capitalist ANTARSYA party carried out in October 2012. Both defendants were sentenced to 12-month prison sentences, suspended for three years.
One of the defendants was former Serres Golden Dawn deputy Nikitas Siois.
Agricultural produce destroyed in Evros, Serres due to flooding
About 4,000 hectares of agricultural produce has been destroyed by floods in the regional units of Evros and Serres over the last few days.
Local authorities on Monday said that a preliminary estimate of the damage reached 130 million euros, and asked the European Union?s Solidarity Fund to provide financial assistance.
