The highest ranking Bulgarian female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova remained the country's sole representative at this year's edition of Roland Garros.

In a match from the first round played on Monday, Pironkova defeated Italian Sara Errani with 6:3, 6:2.

In the second round, the Bulgarian will face for the first time in her career Johanna Larsson from Sweden.

Bulgarian tennis player Sesil Karatantcheva was scored a victory over Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova at the qualifiers of Western and Southern Open tennis tournament in Cincinnati, OH (US).

Karatantcheva won 5:7, 6:4, 6:3 in a match that lasted 2 h 13 m, Bulgarian news website Dnevnik.bg has reported.

Karatancheva defeated the representative of the hosts Katarzyna Piter with 6:2, 7:5.

Bulgaria's female tennis player Sesil Karatancheva concluded her participation in Wimbledon after suffering a defeat in the first round of the tournament.

Karatancheva was defeated by Silvia Soler-Espinosa from Spain with 6:2, 2:6, 5:7 on Tuesday.

The Bulgarian started the match well, winning convincingly the first set, but her performance was not as good in the second set.

Karatancheva defeated former WTA No. 1 Jelena Jankovic from Serbia with 6:3, 6:4 in a match, which lasted around an hour.

The Bulgarian played confidently and made use of the hesitant performance of Jankovic, who conceded 45 unforced errors, daily Dnevnik reports.
