Climber calls off Everest summit bid
A Spanish climber yesterday abandoned his bid to make the first winter ascent of Mount Everest in 25 years after “lethal weather” forced him to retreat.

Avalanche Buried 10 Climbers on Mongolian Peak Odon Tanger
10 climbers, ignoring the ban on climbing Mongol Peak Odon Tanger, have died as a result of an avalanche, seven people are missing, AFP reports.
Greek team conquers Mnt Everest!
The Greek is flying at the highest peak in the world after a Greek mountain climbing mission reached the top of Mount Everest at 8,848 metres. The Greek team led by Antonis Sykaris, one of the most experienced mountaineers and the co-founder and CEO of Athens Mountain Climbing Association, Mike Efremidis completed their climb on May 22 after successfully going up the final leg.

Turkey to take part in Everest marathon for first time
Turkey will for the first time participate in the Mount Everest Marathon on May 29, Sports for Everyone Federation head Yasin Bölükbaşı said on May 8, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
Ece Vahapoğlu, a Turkish author and journalist, will represent the country.
The most experienced Greek climber Kostas Tzivelekas has died
The most famous and experienced Greek climber is no longer with us. Kostas Tzivelekas had led 13 missions in the Himalayas and had participated in 37 missions in total.
His most important achievement, of course, was leading the Hellas Everest 2004, the first mission of Greeks at the top of the Everest.
Tzivelekas was from Mavrolithari, Fokida.
Explosion causes fire at fast-food outlet on Victoria Square
A group of 15 firemen were fighting a blaze caused by an explosion at an Everest fast-food outlet located on Victoria Square in central Athens on Thursday. According to initial reports the blast occurred at around 9.25 a.m.

A devastating earthquake that hit Nepal in April moved Mount Everest three centimeters to the southwest, but did not change its height, according to Chinese research published on June 16.

Kathmandu higher, Mt. Everest shorter after huge Nepal earthquake
The destructive earthquake which hit Nepal on the 25th of April raised the city of Kathmandu, while it seems to have shortened the Himalaya peaks, including Mt. Everest, by 2.5 centimeters, according to preliminary satellite imagery data!
Number of victims from Nepal earthquake victims reach 1,900
Nepal has been turned into a veritable endless cemetery. The monster-quake which reached 7.9 on the Richter scale now brings up the estimate of dead to 1,900.
