Shortages in Venezuela

Pink Floyd singer Roger Waters hit out at Richard Branson on Feb. 18 over plans to hold a humanitarian aid concert to benefit Venezuelans suffering from shortages of food and medicines.

President Nicolas Maduro said Monday that some of the world's cheapest gasoline that Venezuelan drivers enjoy will soon be sold at world market prices to combat rampant smuggling.

Thousands of Venezuelans accompanied the incumbent for his official registration.

Supporters of President Nicolas Maduro gathered Tuesday in several locations across Caracas to accompany the incumbent as he registered as a candidate for the April 22 presidential elections.

"I am no Mussolini," insisted Venezuela's beleagured President Nicolas Maduro on television early this month, but if things go on this way he could end up like Mussolini. That would be very unfortunate for him, and also for Venezuela.

A new study conducted by More Consulting adds to evidence that Venezuela doesn’t have enough food to go around, leaving at least 15% of the people to eat out of the trash.
The study reveals that 52% have to resort to re-sellers, while more than 36% have to exchange food with relatives and friends. More than 45% get food at private supermarkets.
