Greece congratulates newly elected members of the UN Security Council

Greece congratulated Slovenia, its partner and ally in the European Union, for its election as member of the UN Security Council for the term 2014-2025, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Wednesday.

The FM also congratulated Algeria, Guyana, Sierra Leone, and South Korea who were elected new members of the UN Security Council for 2024-2025.

Turkey condoles with Sierra Leone for deadly blast

Turkey's Foreign Ministry condoled on Nov. 6 with Sierra Leone where a fuel tanker explosion left 100 people dead.

The ministry said Turkey regretted learning that people were killed in the explosion.

"We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives as well as the government of Sierra Leone, wishing a swift recovery to the injured," it said.

Oil tanker explodes in Sierra Leone, killing at least 92

An oil tanker exploded near Sierra Leone's capital, killing at least 92 people and severely injuring dozens of others after large crowds gathered to collect leaking fuel, officials and witnesses said on Nov. 6.

The explosion took place late Friday after a bus struck the tanker in Wellington, a suburb just to the east of Freetown.

Red Cross Apologise for Losing $5m of Ebola Funds to Fraud

The Red Cross has confirmed that more than $5m (£3.8m) of aid money was lost to fraud and corruption during the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

Auditors found overpriced supplies, salaries for non-existent aid workers and fake customs bills.

The disease, which raged between 2014 and 2016, claimed at least 10,000 lives.

Nearly 400 bodies recovered from Sierra Leone mudslide, hundreds feared dead

Rescue workers have recovered nearly 400 bodies from a mudslide in the outskirts of Sierra Leone's capital Freetown, the chief coroner said on Aug. 15, as morgues struggled to find space for all the dead.

Dozens of houses were buried when a mountainside collapsed in the town of Regent early on Aug. 14 - one of the deadliest natural disasters in Africa in recent years.

Turkey shares the grief of the Sierra Leonean people and is prepared to provide extensive support to the victims of a devastating mudslide, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Aug. 15
        
"At this difficult time, we reiterate our strong solidarity with the friendly and brotherly people of Sierra Leone," Çavuşoğlu said in a statement.
