A local religious conservative foundation staged a protest in the Black Sea province of Sinop on Aug. 22, demanding the removal of a statue of Ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes.

The Erbakan Foundation said it was protesting the fact that the Greek ideology being attached to the province rather than arts.

Turkey is escalating its provocations in the eastern Mediterranean region by projecting its new military hardware. Ankara launched the new long range Khan missile system with a 280km range. The test was carried out in the region if Sinop on the northern side of the Black Sea coast.

Turkey has successfully tested its first national long-range missile, dubbed "Bora," in the Black Sea province of Sinop, Defense Minister Fikri Işık stated on May 11.

An amateur rower has arrived in Istanbul after completing an epic three month journey along the Black Sea coast, which he undertook to draw attention to the danger of nuclear plants in a region hit by a manic spree of ecology-damaging energy investments.
