Over 6,000 pupils suspended for violating school phone ban, Pierrakakis says

More than 6,000 pupils have been suspended since the start of the academic year for flouting a ban on mobile phones at school, Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said on Monday.

Speaking to Skai radio, Pierrakakis praised the effectiveness of the mobile phone ban and said that despite the 6,043 suspensions, its impact has been "remarkably good."

Culture Ministry announces Acropolis visitor zones to tackle overcrowding

Culture Minister Lina Mendoni announced a system with visitor zones on the Acropolis which will be implemented in July to address the problem of long queues.

Speaking on Skai 100.3 radio, Mendoni stressed that visits to the Sacred Rock have increased by 80% compared to the corresponding period in 2019.

New, highly infectious coronavirus strain arrives from UK

A new, mutated version of the coronavirus has appeared in Greece, carried by six arrivals from the UK, according to radio station Skai.

The carriers were five Greek and one UK citizens who arrived in Greece during Christmas week.

The new coronavirus mutation has shown high transmission rates in the United Kingdom.
